Societies in Transition

11th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe

The 11th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe will take place in Florence (Italy) from 1 to 4 September 2027, hosted by the University of Florence at the Social Sciences Campus.

The conference will bring together geographers and scholars from across Europe and beyond to discuss the spatial dimensions of contemporary societal transformations.

Under the theme “Societies in Transition,” the congress aims to explore the complex processes through which societies evolve in response to economic restructuring, political change, cultural transformations, and environmental challenges. These transitions are not linear processes; they often involve tensions, contradictions, and uneven spatial outcomes.

The conference will provide an international platform for geographers and scholars from related disciplines to exchange ideas, present new research, and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue on the spatial implications of societal change.

Hosted by the University of Florence, the congress will take place in one of Europe’s most historically rich urban environments, offering participants a unique opportunity to reflect on geography, place, and societal transformation.
